Inspiring the next generation with STEM

Inspiring the next generation with STEM

Partly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we needed a new way to reach a young audience, engage them in STEM and inspire the next generation of engineers. Unlock Your Genius was born, a video series aimed at educating our young audience about engineering and sustainability concepts. These were promoted across social media and our website.

The series inspired STEM initiatives across the business. The social campaign had the highest engagement rate of any campaign we’ve done, and one of the videos was our most viewed piece of content we’ve ever produced.

The series was a finalist for the Gartner awards, in the Achievement in Communications Response to 2020 category.

What is augmented reality?

We know AR from Pokémon Go. But it can do more than pursue Pikachu. Carrie shows how we use augmented reality in engineering.

Converting harmful gases into useful products

What if you could turn harmful gases into something useful? Like the dye for your jeans, or fertilizer to help things grow? Cutting emissions and making something useful. Great right? There’s quite a handsome narrator in this one too (it’s me. I am the narrator).

Turning waste into wearables

Did know it's possible to turn plastic waste into clothes, shoes and even bags? Find out how doing this could help create a circular economy and prevent used plastics ending up in our environment.

What is a bot?

What does it do? What does it look like? And how does it stop you from buying your favorite trainers or turn your heating on and off? Welcome to the secret life of bots.

Distrubuted energy systems

Can you imagine a whole day, or even a week, without electricity? No lights, no heating, no internet. Power cuts like this happen, especially during extreme weather events. Distributed energy systems could be a good back-up plan.

Turning waste into energy

What should we do about the 2 billion tons of trash we dump every year? Andre looks at the options.

What is the energy transition?

We’re in the middle of the world’s third energy transition, finding more sustainable ways to create, store and use energy. But as Jennifer explains, we’ve still got a lot of work to do.

What is green hydrogen?

What if your glass of water contained clean energy that could fuel the world? How hydrogen can be extracted from water to heat our homes and power transport.

Meet CAROL, our catalyst removal robot

What if robots could take on the work we don’t want to do? Chris shows how CAROL cleans toxic spaces that only the bravest humans would enter.

 CO2

CO2 has an important role to play in our atmosphere. It keeps us warm. But too much of it is making it too warm. So how do we reduce our CO2 emissions and what else can we do with CO2?
